The London Marathon

 

From everyone at Acorns we’d like to say a massive congratulations to our 36 2009 London Marathon runners!  Coming from all over our region the team put their blood, sweat, tears and enthusiasm into completing the gruelling 26 miles in support of Acorns.

     

A special mention must go to Clifford Berry from Hereford who was our fastest male runner with 3 hours and 3 minutes and to Sarah Rock from Birmingham our fastest female in 3 hours and 42 minutes.  However the achievement of each and every one of our runners is greatly appreciated and we’re incredibly grateful for all the training and fundraising that they have put in.

  
Brian Chu, another of our amazing 2009 runners, gave us his own insight into his experience and the reasons for choosing to support Acorns:

 

‘The crowd was amazing. The roar was deafening. The heat was stifling. It’s like being at a stretched out snake shaped Wembley, Twickenham and NEC all stuck together end on end. They really want you to win. It’s just one massive street party...’

 

'We’ve raised over £1100 for Acorns Children’s Hospice!  But it's not all about me. It's about pulling together with whatever we can do to help charities like Acorns. The "grief" I went through is nothing compared to what Acorns has to deal with on a daily basis. At difficult times like now, it's the small charities which get hurt the most. Being small doesn't mean their work is less important but being small means your donation goes a whole lot further.’

 

The 2010 London marathon will take place on the 25th April.  All our 2010 guaranteed places have now been allocated. However if you were lucky enough to get your own place and would like to join the Acorns Team, please do let us know by emailing lucy.shepherd@acorns.org.uk or calling 01564 825000. As part of the Acorns running team we can support you in your fundraising, invite you to socials so that you can meet other runners and cheer you on for the race itself.

 

Our 2011 London Marathon Ballot will open after this year’s event, please check back here for more information or email us at lucy.shepherd@acorns.org.uk and ask to be notified when the ballot opens.
