Birmingham Airport launches Acorns partnership from a great height

23rd April 2009 - an important new partnership between Birmingham International Airport and Acorns was launched today. In support of the Acorns Fragile Lives appeal, Birmingham International Airport will support Acorns as its nominated charity of the year. Both the Airport’s CEO Paul Kehoe and Acorns’ David Strudley celebrated this exciting new union by abseiling from the top of the Airport’s main offices. They were followed by some of the Airport’s staff and the Acorns’ Events Team. One woman participant, an Airport worker, raised over £600 in sponsorship for the abseil. Acorns will explore the many awareness and fundraising opportunities presented by the Airport as we enjoy being their nominated charity of the year.

Groundbreaking football-charity partnership will continue

Aston Villa FC announces continued shirt sponsorship for Acorns Children's Hospice.

Premiership football club Aston Villa FC has announced that it will keep the logo of Acorns Children's Hospice on its shirts for free to support the local children’s charity with its fragile lives appeal.

Aston Villa FC first handed Acorns the massive awareness opportunity, by featuring the Acorns logo on its shirts for free, last year in a groundbreaking new partnership and gesture that had not been seen before in the UK premiership.

Duncan Riddle, Aston Villa FC’s Head of Community said:

“Aston Villa will continue to place Acorns in the top sponsor spot on our playing shirts, completely free of charge, for the next season. We will also look into the other ways that the club and its supporters can get behind the fragile lives appeal, to raise vital funds through events, lotteries and competitions and by encouraging our supporters to rally behind Acorns and give the charity the support it needs.”

"The current recession is putting extra strain on both the charity itself and the families that it helps, and Acorns is still trying to reach a thousand more life limited and life threatened children in our Region. At Aston Villa we feel very strongly about continuing our support of this local charity and giving them a platform for their message that they simply could not afford any other way”.

David Strudley, Chief Executive of Acorns said:

“We are completely thrilled to receive the news that Aston Villa FC will continue to put our name on its playing shirts for free. This is a tremendous piece of news to receive, and we look forward to working with the Villa and its supporters during the year on the many different fundraising and awareness initiatives that are now available to us. It really demonstrates just how the local community is putting on its thinking cap to find ways to help us.”
