Acorns Hospice, Selly Oak

Opened in 1988, Acorns Selly Oak, which is situated three miles south of Birmingham city centre, has ten bedrooms and a two bedroomed flat to accommodate family and friends.

There is also a Jacuzzi and large hydrotherapy pool used for exercise and relaxation. Music and lights help to create different atmospheres and the special equipment ensures that the children with the most severe disabilities can still use the pool.

The multi-sensory room is much loved by the children and families. This room offers relaxation and the experience of noises, lights and touch. There is also access for beds and wheelchairs.

There is a special bedroom where the children can stay after their death. The Special Bedroom has a cooling system and every effort is made to ensure that both the environment and care offered is appropriate for all cultures, religions and beliefs.

A Memorial Garden nestles in the corner of a specially designed garden for the children. A yellow brick road offers access to a variety of areas for activity, nature watching, sitting quietly or experiencing the fun of the play area.

Acorns Selly Oak provides a home-from-home environment where each child receives a tailor-made package of individual care.
