About Acorns Triple Run
Vision statement
The Acorns Triple Run is a running event designed to appeal to all age groups, levels of fitness and sporting ability. The three courses allow friends and family, both young and old, to participate together! The event comprises: the Malvern Half Marathon, 5km Fun Run and 1km Fun Run.
The Triple Run celebrates the strength and determination that we all have within us and often take for granted. In particular it is designed to encourage able bodied and disabled children to participate together. Each race ends at the same finishing line and all participants will receive a medal in recognition of achieving their own personal best.
The motivation for the event has come from the courage shown by children in their battle against illness and disability. Their strength is a continuing example to us all.
About Acorns Children's Hospice
There are an estimated 2,000 children and young people in the heart of England with a life limiting or life threatening condition or illness – this means they are unlikely to reach adulthood. Acorns Children’s Hospice currently cares for over 630 of these children and young people as well as providing support for their families at every stage of their child's life and beyond into bereavement.
We provide short break, emergency and end-of-life care from the hospices, with a dedicated community team to support the family 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Acorns has three 10 bed children’s hospices: Acorns in Birmingham (located in Selly Oak), Acorns in the Black Country (located in Walsall) and Acorns for the Three Counties (located in Worcester). The hospices are designed to be a home-from-home to help children enjoy their stay and make the most of every day.
Games rooms, soft-play areas, gardens and lots of toys help to ensure a happy stay. The hospices have therapeutic facilities such as hydrotherapy pools and multi-sensory rooms. Special adolescent wings ensure privacy for older children.
With hospice running costs of over £8 million a year, Acorns relies heavily on community support and fundraising events to raise money. We urgently need your support and by taking part in the Triple Run and raising sponsorship you will be helping us continue to provide our specialist services free of charge to families.
