West Brom raises £10,000

Having announced our exciting new partnership with the West Brom for 2011/12 earlier in the year, teams from the building society’s West Bromwich head office and across its branch network have got stuck in to an array of fundraising events and have so far raised a whopping £10,000!

As well as volunteering at the hospices and taking part in our Severn Valley Cycle Challenge, the whole team took on a series of seasonal events – the contact centre held a Diwali Day on Friday 28th October raising nearly £400, employee Dan Jones raised £200 ‘Perking up’ colleagues pumpkins and a selection of staff hosted a Halloween Party at Acorns in the Black Country! In addition a further £2500 was raised with over 33 branches taking part in Share a Cup of Kindness for Acorns, hosting cake and coffee mornings.

Manager Chad Bridgewater said: “The staff cooked up a selection of tasty treats and refreshments which were offered to customers throughout the day in exchange for donations.

“By sharing a cake and a cuppa we raised lots of money and awareness for Acorns, supporting its vital work with local life limited children and their families.”

Signet Trading Ltd

Signet Trading, the parent company of H Samuel, Ernest Jones and Leslie Davies, having chosen Acorns Children's Hospice as their Head Office Charity Partner for 2011-2014 are forging ahead with their fundraising plans. Activities for the year include collecting copper towers, book and DVD swaps, bring a bag to work days and seasonal raffles. They’re even planning ahead for London 2012 with inter-departmental Olympics! The jewellers, whose head office is based in the famous Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, have had a long standing relationship with Acorns and we are delighted to be working with them again.

Jaguar employees fund sibling project

Acorns Children’s Hospice has received a generous donation of £8000 from Jaguar to support the brothers and sisters of Acorns children.  At a time where most of the family’s attention is understandably focused on the life limited child, siblings often go unnoticed. We are there to support these siblings as part of continuing care for the whole family by providing support groups, art, drama and creative workshops and even days out.

Jaguar have supported the Sibling Programme in the past, allowing it to launch and therefore it is fantastic news that Jaguar have once again rekindled their relationship with Acorns by funding all sibling activities throughout the year.

April Wickens, Community Relations Officer, Jaguar Land Rover said: 'We are pleased to re-establish our Partnership with Acorns, a local charity close to our manufacturing facilities, and in particular to support the Siblings Project.  I know that our donation will be put to very good use helping the families of children in Acorns care'.

Kraft make a delicious difference

Volunteers from the Kraft Foods Business Development Management team in Bournville recently spent the day helping out at a memorial garden, used by families supported by Acorns Children’s Hospice, as part of an effort to improve the outdoor area. The 15 volunteers pruned the trees, allowing more light into the garden, planted bulbs and improved the assist railings to enhance the experience of people visiting the garden.

Dave Moreton, project manager for the Business Development Management team at the Kraft Foods site in Bournville, said: “Over the course of the year, we have frequently volunteered to support Acorns as part of our ongoing commitment to the charity. They do some fantastic work and we are always happy to support them in any way we can.”

The employees were given leave from their day jobs as part of Kraft Foods’ annual delicious difference week, which also saw staff from Bournville volunteer a total of 37 hours at Acorns Head office providing much needed administration support.
