Acorns Children's Hospice offers care and support to life limited and life threatened children and young people, and their families, across the heart of England.

Acorns has been providing care and support to life limited and life threatened children and young people since 1988.  We also offer a range of support services for the whole family.  Acorns has three hospices in Birmingham, the Black Country and the Three Counties with a Community Team to support the family with a range of services. Our care services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and there is no charge to families.  All services are culturally sensitive.

The range of services that Acorns provides to life limited and life threatened children and their families includes:

  • End of Life Hospice Care
  • Symptom and Pain Control
  • Family support through a range of groups
  • Sibling support
  • Short breaks to include day care and emergency care
  • Care after death – to include bereavement support
  • Support for adolescents through transition to adult care
  • Access to complementary therapies
  • Access to play and activities
  • Access to hydrotherapy pools
  • Multi-sensory rooms

Referral Criteria

Acorns welcome referrals from across the region. To meet our criteria children and young people need to be under 18 years of age and be diagnosed with a life limiting or life threatening condition.

Families are referred to Acorns by Paediatricians, GPs, Social Workers, Community nurses and by themselves.
