Many donations that come to Acorns Children’s Hospice are made in memory of a loved one. They are a very poignant way to remember someone special while also helping to raise money for local children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions and their families.
You can make a donation in memory of a loved one in a number of different ways – by making a one off donation in lieu of flowers at a funeral, or by giving a gift to remember a birthday or
anniversary of a loved one who has passed away.
When we receive a gift made in memory we can open a Tribute Fund. They don’t cost anything to open and are a special way to pay lasting tribute to your loved one and will help us to continue to
provide vital services. There are two types of Tribute Funds:
Daisy Chain Tribute Funds
Daisy Chain Tribute Funds are purely for Acorns families and are dedicated to celebrate the lives of a child or young person who has been cared for at Acorns. If the Fund reaches £250 or more, the name of your child will be displayed on our memorial board at the Acorns Memorial Wood, at Upper Arley in Worcestershire.
Golden Oak Tribute Funds
Golden Oak Tribute Funds can be opened in remembrance of someone you love. If the Fund reaches £250 you will be sent an oak tree sapling to plant where you wish as a lasting reminder of your loved one. Once a Tribute Fund is opened we will give you an annual update to let you know how your Fund is growing.
In 2007 Sheila’s niece Frances received end of life care at Acorns for the Three Counties. Since then Sheila and her family have been raising funds to help support our ongoing work.
In June this year the family opened a Daisy Chain Tribute Fund in memory of Frances. All of the funds that the family, their friends and colleagues have raised since 2007 have been added to the Tribute Fund.
Both Sheila and her husband Doug, a keen runner, have taken part in various Acorns organised events; they regularly enter a Family team into the Triple Run and are also regular givers. On special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and at Christmas they ask for donations to be made to Acorns instead of gifts. Friends also get together annually to raise funds, the local Tennis Club held a sponsored 24 hour tennis tournament and the family have received donations from their place of work, Frances’ school and ARTS a local theatre group that Frances went to.
The total amount in Frances' Daisy Chain Tribute Fund now stands at over £6,000 and continues to grow.
Sheila said: “Acorns offers wonderful support in a time of need and we would do anything to help. Having a Daisy Chain Fund and seeing the amount that you have raised all in one place helps to motivate you to do more, you can see it growing and it helps you to see what a difference what you do makes.”
