Acorns Children’s Hospice is appealing for generous local companies to sponsor the 7th annual Triple Run in support of local life limited and life threatened children and their families.
More than one thousand runners will take part in the major fundraising event on Sunday 24th June 2012 at the Three Counties showground in Malvern to raise vital funds for the local charity.
The Triple Run allows participants to choose their distance – a 1km wheelchair friendly fun run, 5km fun run or a half marathon. People of all ages and all sporting or physical abilities can participate, allowing friends and family to take part together.
Opportunities are available to sponsor an particular run or the whole event, starting from as little as £500. In return, sponsors will receive possible benefits including branding on marketing materials and event web pages, product placement and branding at the event, company logo on the event medal ribbons and literature in participant event packs.
Several local companies and organisations including Malvern Splash leisure centre, Foresters in Wyre Forest, Cotteswold Dairy of Tewkesbury and Rybrook Worcester BMW have already pledged their support but Acorns still needs more sponsors.
Kerrie Davies, events manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said “Support from local companies and organisations is key for us to be able to make this event a fundraising success.
“Acorns provides care for and support for children and young people with life limiting or life threatening conditions. These children often need care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“It costs £750 for one child’s care per day and we rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income.”
Companies or organisations interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact the events team at Acorns on 0844 984 0405 or email events@acorns.org.uk.

Notes to editors:
Due to the sensitive nature of Acorns care services it refrains from using the words ‘terminal’ or ‘terminally ill’ in its press releases and public communications when describing the children who use Acorns and the conditions that they have. Instead, Acorns uses the words ‘life limited’, ‘life limiting’, or ‘life threatening’ – terms that are used by medical experts at the point of diagnosis of the child, and which are commonly used in the UK’s children’s hospice movement and paediatric palliative care communications. Acorns kindly requests that you respect this in your own press coverage of Acorns Children’s Hospice. Acorns children have a lot of living to do. Thank you.
Acorns offers a network of care and support to children who have life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families, at its hospices in Selly Oak, Walsall and Worcester, and through its community team who offer support at home. Children can stay at the hospices for short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care. The community team give support to the family 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Acorns has developed in size and expertise, and led nationally and internationally toward the immensely important goal of giving life limited children and their families the best possible care.
Since its opening in 1988, Acorns’ reputation has been built on quality of care, and attention to detail – where the whole family is supported, reflecting the Palliative Care Network’s vision towards ‘Living well to the end of life.’
Acorns’ Community Team is the first contact for Acorns families. Acorns contacts all newly accepted families within 7 days.
The hospices would welcome referrals, at Acorns in Birmingham (tel. 0121 248 4850); Acorns in The Black Country (Tel 01922 422500); and Acorns for the Three Counties (tel 01905 767676), for details see www.acorns.org.uk
There is no charge for Acorns’ service but running costs stand at £7,500 per day per hospice that’s £750 per child for a day’s care.
