We provide care and support to life limited and life threatened children, and their families, from the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and parts of Staffordshire and Shropshire. Our hospices are:
Acorns in Birmingham (located in Selly Oak)
Acorns in the Black Country (located in Walsall)
Acorns for the Three Counties (located in Worcester)
Our hospices are purpose built bungalow style buildings. Each has ten beautifully decorated bedrooms which are specially designed to cater for the needs of babies, children or adolescents. There is also accommodation for families so they can stay close by.
Facilities offered at the hospices include play and activity areas with up-to-date IT equipment and generous gardens. The hospices also have 'special bedrooms' where children can stay after they have died until their funeral.
The buildings are light and colourful and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly helping to ensure a home-from-home atmosphere.
Each hospice has a Care Team consisting of registered children’s nurses, health care assistants, physiotherapists, community team workers and volunteers. The hospices have visits from local GPs and also access to the expertise of the Acorns Medical Director.
We tailor a package of care for each individual child and that includes their medical, emotional and spiritual needs. Our highly experienced team can cater for all dietary and nutritional requirements to suit the individual needs of every child and family.
