Step by step event guide

1. Choose your fundraising event

This page is full of ideas for fundraising
events. Call or email us for more ideas or to discuss
any thoughts you might have.

2. Set a date

Get it in everyone’s diaries before you start
planning. If people are not available on the date
you have set then it will not be successful.

3. Get planning

If your fundraising event requires a venue, your first
task is to ensure that you can find one that meets
your requirements. Things to consider: Is the venue
accessible to all? How many people does it hold?

4. People

Ensure you have the right people with the
appropriate skills and experience to make all
elements of the project run smoothly. Many hands
make light work, as they say, so find out what skills
your friends and family have and see how you can
use them to support your activity.

5. Resources

Highlight the resources you may need such as
promotional material, fliers, posters, stickers, etc. If
you need props or costumes try our Acorns shops
to see what you can find.

6. Set a budget and target

Work out how much it will cost you to organise the
event and keep a record of this.
Try to set a fundraising target too
to motivate yourself even more.

7. Publicise your event

Pin up a poster, call, text, email and go all ‘new
media’ by inviting your friends and family members
on Facebook. Our Acorns Press Team can advise
you on the best way to publicise your event perhaps
by putting a press release together and contacting
your local papers and radio.

8. Maximise the money

Charge people to take part, sell tickets, get
sponsored, sell stuff, hold an auction or send round
a donation bucket. Ask your boss to match your
total too.

9. Keep it safe and legal

We don’t want any funny business when it comes
to health and safety. Keep it safe and legal -
for further information see our hints and tips page.

10. Pay in your cash

Once you’ve raised your cash it’s time to count it
and send it to Acorns. Find out how by visitng our
donate page.

11. Finally...

…once you have put together a fantastic and
successful fundraising event you’ll see that all your
hard work has paid off. Thank you for your support -
you can be truly proud of yourself as you have done
something amazing. The money you have raised will
go directly towards providing care for local life
limited and life threatened children and support
for their families.
