Support Group News

Find out how some of our support groups have been supporting Acorns.

Nuneaton Support Group:

Rain or shine, every month for six years, the faithful Friends of Acorns Nuneaton Support Group volunteers have collected funds in buckets from commuters and holiday makers stopping for refreshments at Corley Services in Warwickshire raising a staggering £67,000. Their efforts also helps raise vital awareness of Acorns' work. The group has raised over £125,500 for Acorns from all their fundraising activities. Dick Sharrott, Nuneaton group chairman, said: "I've always been a fundraiser. No matter how good or bad a day it's been, we know we have more in the kitty for Acorns than at the start of the day. It is really satisfying to think how worthwhile the work is. It is not just fundraising, Nuneaton now knows all about Acorns, as a result of support from volunteers." The group also hold a sponsored walk and golf competition each year to help support hospice services for local children. A recent coffee morning held at Weddington Church raised a staggering £810 which demonstrates just how easy it can be to raise money for Acorns!

Castle Bromwich friends of Acorns:

Castle Bromwich Friends of Acorns group proved the power of volunteering when they gave £4,000 to provide care for life limited children - topping off a £50,000 fundraising bonanza.
Margaret Turner and the Friends visited Acorns' Castle Bromwich shop to present the £4,000
raised locally. Her husband Albert, aged 85, said: "We've been working with the community for the last 50 years and have never got bored. If you belong to the community, you like to put something back. We wanted people who supported us to know how they have helped Acorns." Their advice to other groups looking to support Acorns is to start small with something like a table top or garage sale. Then you can look at organising larger events such as dinners and dances.
