Learning and development

Acorns has a learning and development strategy that recognises that the on-going learning and development of staff and volunteers is critical to the successful achievement of its strategic plans. This in turn enables the organisation to provide the best possible care to children and their families accessing Acorns services.

Acorns supports a wide range of learning and development activities for staff and volunteers to meet mandatory requirements, develop role specific skills and address personal development needs identified through the appraisal process. In addition to providing a programme of classroom based courses and hospice based learning staff are encouraged to take advantage of coaching, eLearning and other self-directed learning opportunities. We run an in-house externally accredited leadership programme and have a bank of trained in-house coaches.

Where possible funding is provided to enable staff to undertake relevant professional qualifications in accordance with our policy for funding externally accredited qualifications.

The centrally based learning & development team work with hospice based education leads, management teams, in-house subject matter experts and external providers to deliver high quality, timely learning and development solutions.
