About Acorns

At Acorns Children’s Hospice our dedicated teams provide specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people and support for their families. This support is offered from our three hospices based in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, as well as in the family home and community.

Our stories

Our hospices

Our hospices provide a homely environment where children can take part in a range of fun and therapeutic activities, from arts and crafts sessions to hydrotherapy. Children visit Acorns for respite, short breaks, end of life and emergency care, whilst providing families with a much needed break from caring round the clock.

We provide care and support to life limited and life threatened children, and their families, across the areas of Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Funding our care

It costs around £10 million a year to run our care services in the hospices and community, providing care for the child and support for families.

As a charity we rely heavily on generous donations from the community to fund the majority of our care. We simply wouldn’t be here for children and families without the support of wonderful donors and fantastic fundraisers.

Our people

It takes all kinds of wonderful people to make Acorns the special place that it is. Our skilled professional staff, amazing volunteers and ambassadors and dedicated families all contribute towards making every day count for the children who access Acorns services.

Acorns has around 1,260 active volunteers who work in all areas of the organisation, including the hospices, fundraising and our chain of over 40 retail shops.
