Acorns Children’s Hospice is a registered charity offering a network of care for life limited and life threatened babies, children, young people and their families, across the heart of England. Acorns staff are vital to the services we deliver, and we employ a range of talented individuals across our three hospices, support services, and retail network.

Working at Acorns is both challenging and rewarding, and we take pride in looking after people in line with our values of being compassionate, honest, inclusive, local and dedicated.

Care is at the heart of what we do at Acorns. We have care roles based both in our hospices and out in the local community, and we currently offer care positions on both a permanent and bank basis.


With over 40 shops situated on high streets around the region, Acorns retail network provides a vital part in supporting the services we offer. Along with being a major source of income, our shops deliver a local presence for people across the Acorns region to donate goods, volunteer, or just pick up a bargain.

Support services

Our support services team include a range of different specialisms, each of which contribute towards delivering our vital services. These include Facilities, IT, HR, Learning and Development, Marketing and Finance.


We rely upon the generous donations made from our supporters, and our team of fundraisers to champion Acorns cause. Our fundraisers are passionate about what we do and enjoy the challenge to thrive in a lively and dynamic environment. To succeed as a fundraiser at Acorns, you need to be energetic, target-driven and self-motivated.

Learning and development

We support a wide range of learning and development activities for staff and volunteers to meet mandatory requirements, develop role specific skills and address personal development needs identified through the appraisal process.

The centrally based Learning & Development team work with hospice based education leads, management teams, in-house subject matter experts and external providers to deliver high quality, timely learning and development solutions.

Our colleagues benefit from a variety of blended learning opportunities, including but not limited to E-learning through our innovative learning management system and a personalised onboarding & induction programme that leads to further personal and professional development.

In addition to the above, individuals and are encouraged to take part in self-directed learning and other local initiatives that support our strategy, behaviours and values.  

We offer a professional development programme that supports existing colleagues to complete apprenticeships and gain a qualification that will support them in their role. We also have specific apprentice roles across the organisation and we are proud to be able to help people achieve a qualification while gaining valuable work experience in their chosen area.

Funding for further education will be provided in accordance with Acorns policy for external accredited education.
