Acorns Christmas Appeal

This year we launched our Stronger Together at Christmas Appeal to raise vital funds. We want to ensure that no family caring for a child with a life limiting or life threatening condition ever faces their journey alone.

Help us be stronger together for local families this Christmas. You are the vital link we need to help us create memories that a life limited child will treasure forever.

Making every moment count

By donating a special gift today, your support will help local families like Jo and Sam Williams. A family never imagines they will have one child who needs the services of Acorns, let alone two.

Their son Ben was just five years old when he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. He underwent months of gruelling treatment and hospital visits. Ben’s courage and beaming smile captured the hearts of the nation and even caught the attention of England captain Harry Kane.

Sadly, in Spring 2019, Jo and Sam received the heartbreaking news that nothing more could be done for Ben. He came to Acorns in Birmingham for end of life care. Ben passed away on 17th May 2019, shortly after his sixth birthday. Acorns stood by the family during this devastating time.

Your kind gift this Christmas will help us support more local families in their time of need.

Returning to Acorns

The following year, Jo and Sam were overjoyed to welcome baby Reuben but they soon began to notice things that concerned them. They took him for multiple tests to find out what was happening. They were told the devastating news that Reuben was life limited and unlikely to reach adulthood.

Dad Sam explains: “It’s at this point where we’re being told that we have a life limited child. For us to hear that a second time, it just floored us. It floored us almost into inaction.”

Whilst in hospital, Reuben’s condition sadly deteriorated. Jo and Sam were advised to go to Acorns again for end of life care. Against all the odds, after two months Acorns Reuben pulled through and was able to go home but will continue to need lifelong care.

By supporting our Christmas Appeal today, you will help us be stronger together for local families in need, this Christmas and all year round.
