Help us provide hospice care where it’s needed for local children and their families
Last year your support helped us care for 865 children and support over 1,088 families. On average 16 new children were referred to us every month. These children and families will have a received a tailored package of short breaks, therapeutic and bereavement support, sibling support, emergency and end of life care.
But there are still children and families in our community who are struggling to get the support they need, when and where they need it. That is why we need you to support our hospice care where it is needed appeal.
Specialist care and support is a basic right for every child and family in need.
You can help provide tailored support and care to more local children and families today by giving a gift to our Hospice Care Where It’s Needed Appeal.
When a child requires around the clock care, just finding the time to do the simplest things at home can be a real struggle for families. For families like Amjid’s, this challenge is compounded further by caring for two children with life limiting conditions.
We have been working with Amjid and his wife for a number of years now, their two children Subhan and Zara were both diagnosed with Joubert’s syndrome, a rare brain disorder which causes varying degrees of physical, mental and sometimes visual impairments.
Sadly Subhan passed away last November, aged just seven years old.
Amjid told us: “We know that Zara has the same condition as her brother did and it’s heart-breaking to think that we are going to experience the loss of another child. The pain of losing another child is unbearable but with the support of our friends at Acorns we’ll deal with that day when it comes, I don’t know how we would cope if we didn’t have that support.”
How supporting our appeal will help
could help us provide specialist therapies for life limited children such as hydrotherapy and physiotherapy
could pay for an hour of specialist respite care per child in one of our hospices
could help pay for a specialist nurse to provide vital care in the family home through our outreach services
