Help us provide vital care and support for children, like Luca, and their families
Your gift could help provide vital care and support to a child like Luca and his family
“If it wasn’t for Acorns I’d be isolated and lonely. It’s amazing the difference a cup of tea and a chat with someone who understands can make.”
Luca is 2 years old and has a complex condition called CHARGE Syndrome, which meant he spent the first 8 months of his life in hospital. He has been visiting Acorns with his mum, Faye, and the rest of his family since last year.
Mum, Faye explains how Acorns have been there for her and her family…
“What really makes Acorns special for me is that it’s a place I can go and just relax.
I’ll always be aware of how precious Luca is, how something as simple as a common cold can be so serious and life threatening, but Acorns always feels like a safe place where we can do lots of things together as a family and where they really understand Luca and his condition.
I get too scared to take Luca to local mums and tots groups or around my friends’ houses because I’m worried about him picking up infections and becoming poorly, and that can be really lonely and isolating.
That’s why I go to the Acorns play and stay sessions. Play and stay is a friendly group for parents and carers whose children use Acorns. It’s a place for us to meet other families while taking part in fun activities with the children.
Luca loves the music and sensory activities, and it means I can have a cup of tea and a chat with other families in similar situations to me. It’s amazing the difference a cup of tea and a chat with someone who understands can make.
If it wasn’t for Acorns and people like you, I would still be at home alone and isolated, and my family wouldn’t have this wonderful place to come and make happy memories together.”
“Me, hubbie Ben, Zach (6) and Luca (2) enjoying some family time in the hospice pool. Thank you. Faye”
