Appeal for Businesses to Sponsor Charity’s Festive Spectacular

Acorns Children’s Hospice is searching for big-hearted businesses to sponsor one of its most popular festive fundraising events next month.

For the very first time the charity is bringing the famous Acorns Santa Run to three different locations across the West Midlands over one weekend in December.

The seasonal spectacular will see hundreds of Santas descend on Birmingham’s Millennium Point, Walsall Arboretum and The Valley in Evesham over the 7 and 8 of December to raise vital funds for the charity’s work across the West Midlands.

Amy Deakin, Acorns Fundraising Manager, said: “Every year the Acorns Santa Runs attract hundreds of people and with three events taking place this year, it promises to be our biggest and best festive fundraiser yet!

“It’s such a magical event and the perfect way to kick-start Christmas. But what would really add that extra festive sparkle would be for big-hearted businesses to sponsor them – so, please get in touch if you can help.”

Businesses can also support Acorns Santa Run by entering as a team or signing up as individuals.

The events include a new interactive festive trail which is fun for all the family. Those who want to challenge themselves can take part in a 5k run available at the Birmingham and Evesham Santa Runs.

Amy added: “Each day it costs us £27,000 to provide our care and support services, so events like these are important for raising funds. Every penny raised will help us to continue our vital work.

“By sponsoring or signing up for Acorns Santa Run, you’ll be making a real difference to the children and families we support.”

Acorns provides specialist palliative care and support for life limited and life threatened children and their families. In the past year the charity has cared for over 700 children and more than 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.

Tickets for Acorns Santa Run are priced £15 for adults and £10 for children. Under 2s are free.

Every pound raised by participants goes directly to supporting local children and families. This year Acorns Santa Run tickets include free entry to a host of visitor attractions, including National Sea Life Centre Birmingham and Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum.

Notes to editors:

Due to the sensitive nature of Acorns care services it refrains from using the words ‘terminal’ or ‘terminally ill’ in its press releases and public communications when describing the children who use Acorns and the conditions that they have. Instead, Acorns uses the words ‘life limited’, ‘life limiting’, or ‘life threatening’. Acorns kindly requests that you respect this in your communications when referring to Acorns Children’s Hospice. Acorns children have a lot of living to do. Thank you.

• It costs £27,000 every day to run Acorns services providing care for children and support for their families. The charity relies heavily on donations to fund the majority of its activities.
