Celebrating the fantastic volunteers who give their time throughout our organisation
This Volunteers Week our generous volunteers may not be able to be with us, but we still want to celebrate the fantastic work they do all year round. We’re missing our wonderful volunteers very much, our hospices, shops and fundraising team simply isn’t the same with them! The Volunteers Managers from our hospices and our shops have recorded messages of thanks which you can see on this page.
We miss each and every one of our volunteers who so generously give their time to support local life limited and life threatened children, and can’t wait to welcome them back to our hospices and shops when it is safe to do so. They are the lifeblood of Acorns and we simply couldn’t do what we do without them.
The difference volunteers make
Every Acorns volunteer makes a huge difference each day to hundreds of families like Emma and Hugh’s.
Emma was hesitant to bring her baby to a hospice nine years ago, but found Acorns provided her family with a protective bubble and the support they needed.
“Acorns has given us somebody to talk to, somebody that I can share my worst fears with, and they have given us an opportunity to spend time together as a family. Acorns protects us, like a little bubble. They hold us together.”
How volunteers have been joining the fight
During this crisis, it has been wonderful to see Acorns volunteers staying connected through our social media pages and Together in the Fight Facebook group, as well as sending in videos to keep our families entertained and lift all our spirits. By staying safe at home, our volunteers have been standing with us and the NHS in the fight against Coronavirus.
We’d also like to say a special thank you to those who have been able to help the vulnerable families we support by delivering care packages. You can see Gemma delivering a package to Abi’s dad Gary who says, “It’s difficult to put into words how grateful we are to be honest.”
Our shops can only reopen with volunteers
We can’t wait to welcome our shop volunteers back very soon we hope! Our shops are vital in raising funds to support our care, and that is only possible with an army of volunteers. Thank you to each and every one of you.
As we look to reopen our shops safely, we will also be in desperate need of new volunteers to lend a hand in getting us back on our feet. If you can give a few hours of your time to help in our shops, please let us know by filling this quick form.
Interested in volunteering?
We’d love to hear from you if you are interested in volunteering to help get our shops up and running again soon.
