Acorns for the Three Counties

Our Three Counties hospice is located in Worcester

Acorns in the Three Counties

The care and support offered at the Three Counties is not just for the children but for the whole family. We aim to provide a home from home environment.

Opened in March 2005 the hospice has 10 bedrooms, 2 family care suites and 2 family flats with lounge area and is set in large gardens.

The care team offer holistic care to each individual child that includes both support for their health needs and social and recreational activities. Our facilities include activity rooms such as arts and crafts, a multi-sensory room, indoor soft play and outdoor play area. We also have a computer den and young person lounge for our older clients.

The hospice care team consists of paediatric palliative care nurses, health care assistants and physiotherapists. The hospice has daily visits from local GPs and also access to the expertise of Acorns medical director who is a senior community paediatrician.

We have a hydrotherapy pool where children can have therapeutic support by our physiotherapy team. Family can also access for ‘family splash’ sessions. We have a complementary therapy team who provide treatments to the children and family members, including massage, reflexology and acupressure.

We have on site catering team able to cater for all dietary needs including vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher and African Caribbean food.

The hospice can provide care and support at end of life. Our highly skilled team of nurses and doctors offer palliative care including the management of symptoms while continuing to support the family. We also offer two special bedrooms where children can stay after they have died.

We are able to offer the following services:

  • Day care – children and families can access the facilities at the hospice for a bookable day visit
  • Planned short breaks – this enables families to have a planned break, e.g. a holiday, knowing their child will be well cared for in the hospice.
  • Emergency short break care – emergency short breaks can be available for medical and social needs.
  • Play and stay sessions for children under 5.
  • Family splash – children, young people and their families can book to use the hydrotherapy pool without having a day care or short break stay.

The support of volunteers greatly enhances the service of the hospice. There are over 145 volunteers involved in a variety of tasks including housekeeping, reception, maintenance, gardening, supporting children and families at home via group work.  You can find out more about becoming a volunteer at an Acorns hospice here.
