Rachel, fundraising volunteer

Rachel Lockley, volunteer

Rachel Lockley has been volunteering for Acorns as a fundraising volunteer since 2006.

Can you explain briefly what you do? As a volunteer I do a wide range of things which include; bucket collections, organising events such as bingo nights and fashion shows, marshalling at events, counting money raised, ringing around company etc. to get raffle prizes and support, attending events to raise Acorns profile and participating in challenges myself. You name it I’ve probably done it!!

What made you choose to volunteer at Acorns? I chose Acorns as I wanted to raise money for a local children’s charity back in 2006 and Acorns is just that. I visited the hospice the first time and knew that I had made the right choice; I have carried on being involved since that day. When you meet the children and the staff you know your fundraising is making a difference.

What is your fondest memory of volunteering at Acorns? My fondest memory is of counting the money after organising a charity bingo night with Walsall Fundraising group and finding we had raised over £2000, an amount we never thought we would raise. It was amazing!
