Helen’s walk for children’s hospices

88 year old Helen walked 125km in the grounds of her retirement hotel to raise funds for children's hospices

Inspirational 88 year-old fundraiser goes the distance for local children’s hospices

Helen challenged herself to walk 100k in 28 days during November and December to raise funds for children’s hospices. She is 88 years old and has heart failure, a fractured spine, fractured sacro-iliaz, two replacement knees, heart failure and has had two minor strokes!

Despite all this she smashed her target and walked 125km, which is almost 78 miles! She did the whole walk unaided within the grounds of The Hawthorns Clevedon, the retirement hotel where she now lives.

Helen was a Paediatric Nurse and Headteacher before moving from Halesowen to Bristol to live at the Hawthorns and wanted to raise funds for Acorns and Children’s Hospice South West. She raised a brilliant £325 for each hospice through the support of family, friends and the hotel staff.  A massive thank you to Helen from all of us at Acorns, what an inspirational lady you are.
