Whether you’re one of our generous supporters, amazing volunteers, dedicated and highly skilled members of staff, or our many valued partners in areas such as health, social care and education – your impact on so many of the most vulnerable young members of our local community cannot be underestimated. This Impact Report is for you.
The period covered by this report (April 2019 to March 2020) began with Acorns facing a serious funding shortfall, leading to some agonising proposals to reduce our service. Following an outpouring of support from our NHS partners and our local community, we launched the Save Acorns Black Country Hospice Appeal, to help secure our future service in Walsall, and the vital care provided to families across the Black Country. The response has been fantastic.
Just as our situation was stabilising, in March 2020, we then needed to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic that has seen all our lives disrupted in ways we could never have imagined. Our emergency children’s hospice service has continued throughout the crisis, with our front-line care staff and Family Services Team showing not just their usual skill and empathy, but incredible courage, flexibility and commitment. Everyone at Acorns is proud of the level and quality of service we have been able to deliver so far during this emergency.
Throughout this most turbulent of years, we have remained steadfastly focused on our vision at Acorns – that every child or young person who is life limited or life threatened and their family, will receive the care and support they need. Thanks to you we can report that Acorns has been able to realise this vision. You can read about a small selection of the children and families it has been our privilege to support in this Impact Report.
