Remember someone special. Share a moment together. Welcome a new day with #TeamAcorns
Join us for a special overnight trek to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), where we’ll watch the sunrise and take a moment to remember someone special.
Whether you’re walking in memory of someone who was cared for by Acorns, remembering a family member or friend, or simply looking for a meaningful way to honour someone you’ve lost, this is a chance to come together, reflect and celebrate their life.
Every step can be a memory. Every sunrise can be a new beginning.

This September, we’re inviting families, friends and individuals to come together for a special overnight trek up Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), the highest peak in Wales.
We’ll make our way through the darkness, beginning our ascent from Rhyd Ddu while most people are still tucked up in bed. Guided by the light of our headtorches, we’ll steadily gain height as we make our way towards the upper mountain. Eventually the darkness begins to fade, the horizon starts to glow and the mountains surrounding us slowly appear, giving a chance to pause, reflect, remember and celebrate the people who means so much to us.
After taking in the morning views, we’ll continue our journey before descending back towards Rhyd Ddu – with the rest of the day still ahead of us.
You can walk with your family, bring a group of friends, or take on the challenge on your own and find comfort in being part of a supportive group.
We ask that everyone who joins the trek pledges to raise a minimum amount. For adults this is £200 and for those joining us who are under 18, £60.
The challenge
The Sunrise Trek will take you to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), standing 1,085m above sea level.
We’ll be guided throughout the trek by experienced mountain leaders, alongside the Acorns team who will be joining.
The trek is suitable for a range of experience levels, from regular walkers to those taking on a mountain challenge for the first time. You will need to be reasonably fit, as the full experience takes around seven hours.
You’ll be supported every step of the way.
Make your walk personal
There are lots of ways to make your Sunrise Trek meaningful. You might choose to carry a photograph, a small memento or simply your memories with you. However you choose to remember them, there is no right or wrong way to take part.
If you’ve experienced bereavement and would like a special moment to remember someone, we’d love you to join us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have been supported by Acorns to take part?
No. The Sunrise Trek is open to anyone who would like to remember someone special. You might have a connection to Acorns, or you might simply want to take part following your own experience of bereavement.
Can I take part with my family?
Absolutely. We’d love families to experience this together. Under 18s will need to be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult, with participation agreed with the event organisers in advance. To check before booking, please email events@acorns.org.uk.
Do I have to walk in memory of someone?
The event is centred around remembrance and reflection, but there is no prescribed way to take part. You can dedicate your walk to someone special, carry their memory with you, or simply use the experience as a personal moment to reflect.
What if I find the experience emotional?
That’s completely understandable. This is a reflective experience, and everyone will have their own reasons for taking part. You’ll be part of a supportive group, with Acorns staff and experienced mountain leaders with you throughout the trek.
What happens if we can't see the sunrise?
Mountain weather can be unpredictable. While we’re hoping for a spectacular sunrise, there’s no guarantee we’ll be able to see it. The trek will take place in most weather conditions, but the mountain leader will make the final decision based on safety.
What is the cost of taking part?
To join the challenge, it costs £40 per adult and £30 per under 18. This helps cover the cost of the event such as the trek leads.
We ask that everyone who joins the trek to pledge to raise a minimum amount. For adults this is £200 and for those joining us who are under 18, £60. Your fundraising enables us to continue the work of the charity, supporting families when they need us the most.
