Take on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to the land of the Northern Lights!

Explore the other-wordly landscapes of Iceland, land of the Northern Lights. Spend three days trekking across fields of geothermal activity with bubbling mud pools and hot springs, the peaks of the Mount Hengill heritage site and the fault lines between Europe and America. Keep your eyes to the skies and you might be lucky to experience Lady Aurora herself!

This is an Open Challenge and you will be joined by fellow travellers who may be supporting other charities.

That flights will depart from London and you will need to organise your own transport to the airport.

Payment options:

Self-funded (pay your own costs)

Pay a registration fee of £350, then a final payment of £1,800 no less than 10 weeks before departure. You can set your own fundraising target to support Acorns.

Fundraise for Acorns (sponsorship)

Pay a registration fee of £350, then fundraise £3,800. By signing up, you are committed to raising a minimum of £3,800.

Your fundraising will help fund our vital care for local children and families. Part of this amount is used to cover the cost of your trip. Our expert events team will be on hand to support you with your fundraising to help you achieve this target.

By taking part in this incredible challenge and joining #TeamAcorns, you will be raising money for life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people across the West Midlands.

We’re here to support you all the way! By signing up for the event you will receive an Acorns running vest, support from our Events team to help with your training and fundraising and the amazing feeling you’ll get from knowing you’re making a real difference to local children! Frequently Asked Questions

What time are the flights?

Please be aware that flights will depart from London. Different Travel seek the cheapest possible flights in order to ensure that as much fundraising as possible goes towards funding our vital care and support for local children and families at Acorns Children’s Hospice. You will need to organise your own transport to the airport.

Exact flight times will be confirmed by Different Travel.

Who accompanies us?

You will be accompanied by local guides who have an excellent knowledge of culture and hiking in the region. The guides are first aid trained and will support you throughout your journey. You will also be accompanied by a Different Travel Company UK tour manager.

How tough is it?

This trek is graded moderate to challenging. You will be trekking long distances over varying terrain over consecutive days.

What is the climate like?

Temperatures can typically peak to around 6°C during the day and drop to around 1°C at night however you must be prepared for variations to this which are out of our control. Weather during the adventure will be dry with light winds and rain is possible. Please note: the temperatures and conditions above are historically accurate but climate change can impact the seasons so you may experience uncharacteristic conditions during the trip which are out of our control. The guides will assess the situation and make decisions to ensure the best enjoyment and safety of the group.

What is the food like?

You will be provided with plenty of hearty Icelandic meals which typically include fish and lamb and will keep your energy levels high for each day of discovery. Please inform Different Travel in advance if you have any dietary requirements or preferences.

Who can take part?

The minimum age is 18. It may be possible to participate if you are 16 or 17 years old but you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no upper age limit. The ideal candidate would be fit, healthy and determined, open to adventure and adaptable to unexpected changes.

What is the accommodation like?

You will stay in a hotel for the duration of the trip. A single-occupancy hotel room may be possible subject to availability and payment of a single supplement.

Will there be high altitude?

This trek does not take place in an area of high altitude.
