Often the family of a life limited or life threatened child or young person may feel they are facing seemingly impossible challenges alone.

It is also estimated that for every child with a life limiting or life-threatening condition, five family members will be directly impacted.

Support at every stage

Our aim at Acorns is to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their child’s life, with dedicated teams offering psychological, emotional, and practical support.

The family support team enable the well-being and resilience of family members, so that they can continue to meet the needs of their babies, children and young people. Our team will also ensure families can access services from other health, education, and social care providers.

We provide a mix of family support groups which meet regularly so people can take part in a variety of activities, helping them to express their feelings, build friendships with others in similar situations and reduce isolation.

We currently run support groups for:

  • Siblings
  • Parents and carers
  • Mums
  • Dads
  • Grandparents
  • Men
  • Bereaved parents and carers
  • Oncology
